ABOUT ME

Hello! I'm Bassel

I'm a Mechanical Engineering student at Wayne State University who's pursuing a career opportunity that will expand my knowledge and challenge me to apply my well-developed skills in a new and creative way.

Why Engineering?

I believe passion is what makes each and every one of us so different, yet so relatable. My passions include cars, exercise, and engineering. I have grown up being a car enthusiast my whole life and it's one of the largest driving forces that has led me to choose Engineering as a profession. The automotive masterpieces that have crossed production line left me speechless with nothing but praise to the engineers responsible for such stunning work. I hope that one day I can work hard enough to be one of the minds behind the production of a car that inspires others.

I've also had an engineering internship that has taught me what being a mechanical engineer is really like. I had genuinely enjoyed the challenges and the responsibilities that came along with the position. There were some failures along the way but I  was never discouraged and enjoyed the reward of solving a complicated problem, especially after multiple attempts.

About Me

WHAT PEOPLE SAY

He created, maintained and exceeded his own high standards of performance and intellectual curiosity for the duration of the semester while remaining receptive to and grateful for all feedback in a desire to improve, progress, and evolve as an academic.

Bassel will accept, conquer, and exceed any challenge presented to him, and so I hereby offer my support and highest recommendation on his behalf. "

EXPERIENCE
EXPERIENCE
2013 - Present

Bartender, Waiter

La Saj Lebanese Bistro

I have worked at La Saj for quite a long period, its the place that I believe taught me the most. I have worked  7 total positions and learned how to be a versatile and dependable worker. La Saj has helped me develop a variety of skills including time management, prioritizing, ability to work under stress, teamwork, communication, and customer service.

2016 - 2017

Engineering Co-op

Hutchinson Sealing Systems, Inc. (HSSI)

In my experience at HSSI as a co-op engineer, I was able to expand my knowledge in the field of engineering as well as professional communication. I grew as a person and as an aspiring engineer. Some of the most notable lessons I learned were: development of complex technical documentation such as DFMEA, conducting design studies that helped show strengths and weaknesses of certain section designs, studying and applying FEA test results to a product design, benchmarking research and development, etc.

Hutchinson Sealing Systems, Inc. (HSSI)

As I began my summer internship at HSSI, I was a product design major and I was looking to get some experience in the field in order finalize my educational decision.  Although I ended up changing my major to mechanical engineering, I was quite happy I made such decision. My internship taught me how useful it is to be able to understand and communicate with designers. It expanded my knowledge in many design procedures but more importantly, it helped me understand how to effectively communicate with engineers and designers. Other important lessons included working with FEA engineers, creating new designs,  conducting design studies, and effectively changing design geometry according to an engineers requests.

May 2016 - Aug 2016

Design Internship

2012-2016

Assistant Installer

In-Home-Installation (IHI)

IHI was a stepping stone that helped me realize that I truly like to be challenged with finding solutions to complex problems. As an assistant installer, I was responsible for getting the product ready for installation by adding required bracketing and prepping product to enhance installation efficiency.

EDUCATION
EDUCATION

Wayne State University

At my time at Wayne State, I would have been projected and heavily trained in a variety of resources that specialize in solving complex engineering problems. Engineering students are very well-rounded in education and must complete 131 credits in math and science intensive classes. Here is a list of classes that a mechanical engineering student must complete. College is not what it seems, it is not strictly to absorb complex information, rather it is to teach you how to learn difficult processes in the real world. Many other essential skills are also strengthened during this period such as teamwork, prioritizing, time management, and socializing. Currently, I'm a junior with a 3.8 GPA, expecting to graduate in the year 2020.

2015-2017

Bachelor's Degree

2012-2014

High School Diploma

L'Anse Creuse High School

My high school was a great learning period. Since English is not my native language, I struggled through many classes but those struggles have helped me become a better and more understanding person. English is now one of my strongest subjects!

Notable classes:

Advanced Placement U.S government | Automotive Technology

Advanced Placement World History

Microsoft Office - Advanced

Siemens NX / UG - Advanced

MATLAB - Advanced

Catia - Proficient

AutoCad - Advanced

RECENT PROJECT
RECENT PROJECT
Coding with big data - Group Project - Fall 2017

I've recently completed a coding project that involved in-depth manipulation of big data. The project was meant to show that the incredible power and usefulness of Matlab by efficiently sorting through over 100,000 Detroit demolition data points. From these computations, users were able to search demolitions based on any specified time, neighborhood, price, or contractor. Multiple graphs portraying demolition trends were also produced, along with statistical data that helped the users predict what part of Detroit had the most construction plans. User-friendliness was also a huge priority, so we created the code in a way that only 1 button was needed to initiate it. From there, a user menu would pop up along with guiding memos so that the user can be efficient and truly benefit from the project. This project extended throughout the whole semester and truly tested our knowledge and comprehension of Matlab's coding language.

Some responsibilities:

  • Intensive troubleshooting of other group members codes

  • planning and leading meetings

  • motivating the group to work efficiently in order to meet deadlines

  • researching Matlab analysis capabilities

  • combining all of the codings, and producing a final product
